The Friends of Dorchester Abbey wanted to create a garden to enliven the space on the north side of the Abbey grounds, and to create a tranquil retreat for visitors and the local commuity.  Members of HEA worked with the Friends group and representatives of the Diocese, to agree a location for the garden, and to explore design options and opportunities, reaching consensus that a herb garden to illustrate the monastic uses of plants was appropriate.
